| Full Description: Echinopsis Hybrid 'BARCAROLE' Has a fragrant 4" to 5" (10 to 15 cm) bloom with petals oblanceolate, in two whorls, subequal, crinkled at sides, inners delicately bicolored pastel purplish-pink and pinkish-orange. Outer petals with dark pinkish-purple midstripe. Throat-circle pink to purplish-pink. Outer stamens forming a broad circle, anthers large, puffy, cream colored, filaments light pinkish-orange. Stigma white. Flowers fragrant. Stem semicolumnar, to nearly 3-¼ inches (8 cm) in diameter; all spines minute. The name alludes to the Barcarole aria—a Venetian boat song—from Jacques Offenbach's opera, Les Contes d'Hoffmann. Hybridized by Bob Schick. |
