Full Description: Cactus species Pilosocereus gounellei Is a columnar cacti that can grow up to 15' feet tall, spreading candelabra like form with new stems emerging from base and laterally from the main stems. Individual stems are blue-green colored with golden to tan spines and some hair, older spines later turn greyish, average 11 to 13 radials, 1 central spine. A beautiful columnar cacti but does need protection in winter.

Common Names : Alastrado, Chique-chique, Xiquixique, Xique-Xique

Synonyms : Pilocereus gounellei, Cephalocereus gounellei, Cereus gounellei, Pseudopilocereus gounellei, Pilocereus setosus, Cephalocereus zehntneri, Cereus zehntneri, Pilosocereus zehntneri, Pseudopilocereus zehntneri, Pseudopilocereus superfloccosus, Pilosocereus superfloccosus, Pilosocereus braunii

Native To : Brazil- in the region of Minas Gerais, Bahia.

Flowers / Fruit or seed pods : The flowers of Pilosocereus gounellei are white colored, nocturnal blooms, average 4" in diameter. Blooming usually occurs in spring and fall.

Care : Likes full sun to some partial shade. Regular water and fertilizer in warm season-spring to fall. Rich well draining soil with some decomposed gravel or coarse sand added to assist in good drainage. Keep on the dry side in winter when not in full active growth. Tender to frost especially young plants, so give some protection in winter from frost. Prefers regular temperatures 50 degrees and up, very heat tolerant. Stem tips or apex is especially tender in winter, can sustain damage below 40 degrees for any prolonged periods.
