Full Description: Schlumbergera hybrid S.'BUCKLEYII' (The True Christmas Cactus) Has a white tube and some white in the throat with magenta to red petals and outer petals. Growth has smooth phylloclades with no teeth as most Thankgiving Cactus may have. Its pendulous in growth form and best in a hanging basket or in a pot on a stand so that the long chain of stem segments may hang downward freely. One of the origonal 3 hybrids created by William Buckley in the late 1840s at Rollisson Nurseries in England. S.'BUCKLEYII' blooms usually open after the Christmas holiday season in mid to late January, sometimes depending on weather even later. It can on occasion bloom several times. Hard to find as its not very marketable for most commercial growers since it tends to blooms later usually after the lucrative holiday season. We have decided to offer it so other Schlumbergera collectors can grow it too. This hybrid is a very strong/stable grower and durable, often found as very old plants passed down generations. Some plants of this variety are reported to be up to 100 years old. A large full pot with many long stems and several seasons old can have 1000+ blooms open at once. Share this page "S.'BUCKLEYII' (The True Christmas Cactus)" with a friend NOTES; The true "Christmas Cactus" is Schlumbergera x buckleyi, a hybrid between S. russelliana and S. truncata produced in the late 1840s by William Buckley at the Rollisson Nurseries in England. There are three slightly different surviving clones (vegetative descendants by layering or cuttings) the three hybrids of this cross are named S.x.buckleyi 'Buckleyi ' , S.x.buckleyi 'Rollissonii', and possibly S.x.buckley 'Snowii'. 'Rollissonii', has flowers magenta in colour, 'Buckleyi', with white tube shading to magenta petals, and 'Snowii', with smaller magenta flowers and stem segments. Currently offered as a 6-8" long multi-branched stem with several stem segments (or leaves) that can each be rooted. Roots very easily!
